ABOUT “OUR MULTI-NATIONAL HERITAGE TO ADAM, VOLUMES I and II,
ANCESTRY OF MERLENE HUTTO BYARS
By Merlene Hutto Byars
These books, “Our Multi-National Heritage to Adam” Volumes I and II, are the last of our research to Adam. It is the result of the collection of information we have researched and gathered, that added to the five generations of ancestry for the families of Esther Ray McClintock, Frank Pickens Williams and Merlene Faye Hutto Byars (Klutzow), that was hand ed d own to them by their parent. These three cousins, Esther, Pickens and Merlene, have explored cemeteries in many states and in Europe. We carried our screwdriver to dig out the engravings on tombstones and then we traced the information onto rice paper with a special crayon. Sometimes it was just written on paper.
The charts in this Volume II show the heritage of Merlene’s nephew, Major General Robert E. “Bob” Livingston, Jr. back to Adam. Bob led the 218th Brigade in the fight in Afghanistan during the year 2007-2008. He is the leading candidate running for South Carolina State Adjutant General in November 2010.
I traveled Europe three times and Esther traveled there many times while she was film editor for the movies about- “The Three Stooges". While there we traveled to places su ch as St. Joh n's Church cemetery at Cambridge University, Althorp, and many other castles in England, Wales, France, Jerusalem, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands and other countries. Pickens has traveled many times to Virginia and Maryland to search our ancestors such as those who served in The War Between The States.
We found that our ancestors came from Denmark, Greece, Holland, France, Egypt, England, Scotland, Wales and even Palestine, Israel, Persia, and o ther co untries. They came from Northern Ireland ancestors, whose bloodlines were from Scotland, and have no Irish blood, to the West Indies, and to our present America because of the British controversies with the citizens of Scotland who became Presbyterians and for other reasons that led to fighting between them.
We also researched the Manning papers at th e University of South Caroliniana Library and Barnwell County Museum; the writings and personal contact with our ancestry connected to A.S. Salley, South Carolina State Historian and William Gilmore Simms, Sr., who was the most prolific historian in th e United States.
William Gilmore Simms, Sr. had children with club feet and Merlen e also had two sons born with club feet. Therefore, we learned much about health and oth er problems that run in our family, such as gout, free-bleeders, especially in females, arthritis, migraines by male an d females, breast can cer by male an d females and club feet in males. We became so fascinated with our findings that we probably became addicted to our work and so we went on to discover our ancestry to Adam and Eve. We are so thankful for our ancestors who hand ed down information in writing that takes us back to our beginning.
Fortunately, these great historian s were also a part of our heritage and we have been able to acquire from them their research for our family con nectio ns.
I also learned that the names Duke, Major, etc. were taken by our ancestors because the British would not let anyone of the early settlers keep their titles. So, they took their titles as their names.
